Studies in Improvisation Vol. 2:
Lotto Compositions

The "Lotto" series is music generated by transcribing Illinois State Lottery numbers in their original sequence into a row of music.

Each measure corresponds to a lotto drawing. For example, if the lottery drawing is: 16-22-38-39-48 These numbers are then applied to pitches. These notes are then spilt into 3 parts: bass, tenor sax, & trumpet. The rhythms follow the sequence or the row, producing a random hocket.

This series grew from a need to escape cliche and idiosyncratic technique.
